Lol bitcoin though getting more popular does not beat dollar in term of payment in an online business. The term alternative tells that it is still inferior when it comes to adoption or usage in an online payment. Trading is much different to online payment and they perform separately. One example is gold, gold might be very active in trading but you cannot use it as mode of payment online since there is no one accepting it as payment, if there is someone i bet they are few. So we cannot use trading [profit as measurement on how it will go well in payment online

And Bitcoin obviously cannot beat it, even as an online payment tool. But how many currencies are there? Maybe, the Euro as an addition to the dollar, and that's pretty much all. So Bitcoin is competing (or at least, trying to compete) with major currencies at a world scale level. The rest is mostly just trash in this respect (i.e. not very usable as a universal world-wide means of online payments)
