It shouldn't make any difference because say you use waves and polo doesn't, you could send to the smart contract from waves and have the ether tokens from the smart contract send to polo then...

I think that's the gist of it---whichever you prefer you store on that chain, if you need to switch for any reason, use the smart contract address function

Yep, the smart contract will do the job. Just looking at it from the perspective of simplifying the process, and reducing unnecessary tasks and transactions. Call me lazy
