Gave that article a skim after reading about it here, that really was a senseless death went and got all the chips and then went and committed suicide.
Also one of the rare cases where being in the VIP room instead of escaping did not work because of smoke and fire.

But looks like robbery ISIS sometimes just takes the credit for these lone wolf attacks since it presumes they are related.

Yes, according to the Philippine police it is a robbery even if the ISIS claimed that they are the one who did it. And also they already have the identity of the gunman. He was a former government empoyee who was addicted into gambling. He has a debt of around 4M pesos. Lost his family because of his addiction to gambling.
