If you were planning to stop supporting and taking wallet offline, you should not have allow people to use the web wallet or put a big notice on the wallet website!!!

And I agree, given how this is money, it could have been handled better. Maybe an option that exist for a few weeks or months after removal that allows users to still access their coins. It's just hard to understand why something this important wouldn't have a longer warning or backup.
