If you are on Windows, go to "Tools". If you are on Mac go to "preferences". Either way, from there go to "Options". There is an option to allow a short seed.

Done. Nothing has changed, same error message "seed too long". Option is to allow a short seed, not a long one.

damn thats a bad error. you could try deleting number 9 in your seed and see if you can get it down to 81 characters. as far as I understand IOTA uses 9 to fill up short seeds. so maybe deleting the 9 works too? it wont work i assume, but just try . maybe it works.

doesn't work, even because deleting all 9s it becomes a 83-char seed

Errors while setting up new wallet and resolution:

"Invalid Seed" Error:
1. Type all of the letters in UPPER case.
2. If your old seed was longer than 81 characters, only type in the first 81 characters to this text box.
3. If your old seed had numbers other than "9", or any spaces, those were automatically converted to the number "9" by the old wallet - you'll need to enter those characters as "9" in the text box here.

"Seed is too long" Error:
If your old seed was longer than 81 characters, then use first 81 characters of the old seed.
