I'm on 10.8.3... Yeah I use the 10.7 flags also. I'm not sure to be honest why yours wouldn't work for me. I checked otool -L on your binary and all the dependencies looked the same on yours as they were on mine. I'll play around some more tomorrow, but it's possible that my machine is just wonky from all the libraries I've installed, un-installed and updated with brew.

Btw I'm totally fine with splitting the bounty or whatever ryan wants to do, because you clearly know what you're doing...and since our sample size is really small, it's entirely possible that nothing's wrong with your client.
