D3 need 10 Connector. So make sure your PSU have the POWER and Connector

Is there a reason to keep the D3 does the X11 have anything exciting incoming ? or will they release a firmware update for allowing other algos to be mined?

Yes, it makes a noisy heater for winter, Helium will be on x11 it will be new, its impossible to upgrade the d3 for other algos.

I heard somewhere the D3 will receive a firmware update that will allow it to mine Qubark etc ? just like some other X11 miners can ?

Not very likely. This rumour is floating around for quite some while now. But I heard somewhere that the ASICS are not able to be programmed with a normal firmware update for quark and X13.
