I think Bitcoin has grown so big that at this point, Bitcoin is the only thing that could destroy Bitcoin. I am not against forks (and I am not supporting it too) but I do see that if we don't put our efforts into improving Bitcoin from user's side, developer's side and work on the current issues in order to resolve those issues then we don't need anyone to destroy it for us. I agree that implosion will be a far more likely outcome, rather than something external. The path of Bitcoin needs to be closely monitored, that's why I've noticed btc loyalists are extreme in protecting the path.
