The best is not to invest long term, set your target and guide it jealously except those coin that have been around for a while in which their leaving the space is not likely, then every other coin should be treated same way no matter the amount of hype its currently enoying.

Logic said that inside investment we need to be wise if we can set up our goals and we do ride with such rides I think for long term alts just hold ETH and Waves platform would be one of the best offer coming from such project, we will see this after some years and holding would be very profitable at all.
