But it's not good for the reputation of a project if the price drops hard after hitting exchanges.

I've noticed that the initial direction of the token price after ICO seems to be a good indicator. Tokens that go down in price after ICO (Pillar) don't make a come back right away. Ones that go up (Populous) seem to stay there. Just an observation.
