I am confirming it works.I tried my btc addresses in the BTG explorer but the address came up as not there....do we have to add prefix or do a bit shift or something?

The fork was on October 24th. So, if your coins existed that morning then you're looking at BTG.

As for getting them....
Use electrum to get your private keys.
Then get a coinomi wallet on an android device and at BTG. Then sweep the addresses from the private keys you exported.

My suggestion is to move your BTC and BCH (if you have any) to another address/wallet first.
Never give your private keys to anyone. That said, you can give it/them to me and I can claim/sweep and send them to your new BTG wallet address.
