I guess if you looking for long term investment, you can buy anytime you like if you believe that LTC and BTC will succeed in the future.
Both are very profitable as an investment, when bitcoin rise and LTC will follow, that would give you double reward and that is the benefits for holding long term, also try to consider buying Ethereum, it's also one of the best coin in the crypto.

There is better option today but to get into bitcoin market. Its gaining wider audience and getting popular and don't missed the opportunity to profit because the market is very bullish because of all this financial institutions circling around bitcoin because they want to get a piece of the action. Bitcoin is dominating the market with more than 50% of the total marketcap, which means everyone is going crazy. Just buy what your budget allows, and then wait for dips to buy more. Most of us are looking at $20,000 mark at the end of the year. As far as LTC, looks like you the made the correct decision of investing on it because the price is mooning to the surprise of many.
