So you gave a stranger access to your computer and by the word "password" probably the password to the wallet.
Since we assume he was having trouble buying "a certain" type I am thinking an ICO scam or some really shady coin traded on it's own exchange.

But, this looks a bit far fetched and knowing the source of the articles which is usually 99% clickbait I assume we have less than 2% chances of the story being real.

This stuff about the "fake support line" got me thinking this is a made up story.
And the fact that the only other place where the story is share (by the same author) is steemit where a lot of lies are told for money.
