Let me ask you something because you seem knowledgeable Why am I hearing that bitcoins transactions are costing 8+ dollars
and excuse my ignorance as I'm still trying to figure out how the miners are paid and how much it actually cost them to work a block.

The whole transaction fee thing works like a auction. People are willing to pay more than the average fee for processing a transaction and miners will prefer to process only transactions with higher fee over lesser fee. The more there are people who can afford to pay more than usual to get their transaction processed the higher the transaction fee will be.

I think they should do some work on it i'm sure we can make it better
