yes this is the problem.. in one thread you are selling the page, on the another thread you are asking users to join and use your shortener, it's not fair

I agree you should NOT be trying to drum up new users when you are looking to sell your website. And if you do insist on doing so, you should be transparent and tell ppl in the op post.
