Edit - difficulty seems to be adjusting too high at times. After a new block comes, my 1.5 kH doesn't get a share before the next block. I tried on both the low diff port and the mid diff port. Both auto adjusted high between 100,000 and 200,000. Is this normal?

Looks like that pool have bad settings, so your works isn't rewarded.
I solved that problem on my pool, so even smaller miners are rewarded for they work.
