Thanks for sharing those twitter links. I glanced trough them and read some stuff on Reddit & watched on YouTube.
My conclusion is following:
- MyEtherwallet developers had a falling out and most of them went away and decided to start competing against Myeterwallet with the new project called Mycrypto.
- Both sites should be legit, but I will for the time being continue with old one and/or Metamask
- Your Ethereum should be safe, this was not a hack. After all MEW is just an interface and if it goes down you just take your private keys and use them on some other interface (ie. metamask) to access your funds
Yeah you are on point. MEW is not actually holding or storing our wallet internally. It is an interface to access the ethereum network. So we can always access our wallet through imtoken, metamask.
The original MEW is still working fine though
