It;s not more reliable per-se but they are better than the bounties posed as airdrops which we keep seeing. All these "sign up to fifty twitter account" airdrops are more than likely scams trying to get your information and grow their social accounts.

The self claiming airdrops at least leave you to be the master of your own airdrop and infer a bit of technical knowledge from the developer.
