It;s not more reliable per-se but they are better than the bounties posed as airdrops which we keep seeing. All these "sign up to fifty twitter account" airdrops are more than likely scams trying to get your information and grow their social accounts.

The self claiming airdrops at least leave you to be the master of your own airdrop and infer a bit of technical knowledge from the developer.

Yap I later on realize that it is more ok to do self airdrop than filling up those forms that almost 99% are scam. Thanks
