Blockchain and currency are different though. Lots of people that say they hate bitcoin, don't necessarily hate blockchain.

Cryptocurrencies are the virtual tokens with value that transact on blockchain. And it's what the authorities are afraid of. Blockchain technology and smart contract on the other hand would change the way the information are shared and would increase transparency decreasing scams and frauds.
