I understood from the S9 thread auto tune is in software - you can drop in the fixed frequency firmware from Bitmain and fix the frequency lower for the auto tune S9's...only useful if you want to reduce temps (and hash) from what I gather

Mainly I want to reduce fan speed... My S7s are fine at 30% speed, the S9s are like a jet engine (even though they're in a cooled room)... so you think one could load an older non-auto tune firmware on a newer S9?

I haven't tried it - just read it in the S9 thread.
My S9's I go for soundproofing.

Thinking about replacing them with 841's now, those can be got at a pretty decent price.
