What better example than bitcoin itself? You know why ICOs exist? Other than their motive to scam,they exist because of funding of their project. If you want to launch your own crypto,you can,whatever funding is required,you would have to pay from your own pocket. Just like companies, not all companies issues shares for funding,they have other sources,so can you.

Bitcoin is old and IMO can't be used as an example. Thinking of newer coins I can definitely point out LUX and BWK, both are solid with good dev teams behind them.
