1) Don't install this version to your HDD it's only out for a few more days then you can have the final version. What errors you getting with grub ?
2) Probably forgot to set the permissions on that file. I'll fix it up for the final version.

I used a generic PCI-e card to boot up with x server and left one 6950 card in, and was able to boot up, and I can see the one 6950 with aticonfig, catalyst won't come up says drivers not installed, and poclbm only recognizes the CPU.

You will have to excuse me but I don't quite get you ? Does aticonfig work with one card and catalyst says there's no drivers or it works with the one card one but doesn't ? I have come across the odd troubles down to a bug with acpi routing. You could try appending the boot line and adding

pci=noacpi

It's solved a load of weird troubles my end Cheesy
