As you can see, I mentioned Post History, and that is something all forum users should be aware off and wary about. Very often, meriters value not only the content of the post being merited, but the users posting track. This takes us extra time, but is a known habit here for many reasons.
Unfortunately, one does try to even out the sMerits one sends and not to concentrate them too much or in a very short period of time. This second factor, while not being a wrong doing at all, is often in the minds of merit awarders due to false positive accusations of abusing merit. This is a delicate matter whichever way you look at it, but kind of gets in the way of a clear objective (or should I say subjective rather) mind when it comes to meriting posts from good posters. There are threads where I would nearly merit all the posts within, since all have invested time and thought into the discussion, but the mental brake is drawn and stops the process in its tracks. This I know happens to quite a few of us around here.
To summarize it all: good mindset, good posting history. Merits should come your way with the two factors, at once pace or another. Well done so far.
I feel the need of seconding what DdmrDdmr has pointed in his quote. Sometimes I feel a post deserves much more than just one merit, but due to the incoming "inquisition" having a place in some boards of the forum, I stop and just give one.
Also, the posting history is a really important issue when regarding a user. As I told you the first time I merited you, I always check the post history of a user before meriting, for, to me, the one thing that must be rewarded is the attitude towards the forum.
Having a good attitude, being humble, sharing the knowledge, the insights one have, must be the correct approach and deserves many merits. Besides, seniors members need to take care of the good-newbies, for they are few, and also because this is a much better approach to make the forum a better place rather than making accusations to bad ones. I've seen recently the meta board full of people accusing one to another. I get the point, the forum is in a bad shape, but I think that if we better dedicate our time to support good newbies, this is a much healthy way to improve the forum.
(PD. Someone, make DdmrDdmr a Merit Source!!
