People lose everything for gambling because they become greedy, they want to have an easy money so they think that gambling can give them that or maybe others just want to gamble without them noticing that they become addicted already. There are a lot of reasons actually but it all boils down to money.

I don't think so why we need to quit our self if we're only just to stay away from gambling, we can focus other things that are productive for one's self and for the family, so we don't need to change everything about our self, slowly leave gambling and consider it as non profitable activities and its just only a sort of leisure that need to be controlled.
