Have you thought about adding some sort of privileges that come along with it? Nothing too amazing, but how about something like a bigger personal text or the ability to have a clickable link there? To add to this suggestion, I think being given some sort of title after receiving x amount of merit would be nice. I was thinking something like Meritous, but that doesn't seem to be a word haha, but 'Meritorious' is which sounds even better:

Contributor could also be another one, or maybe the entry level choice for a smaller amount of merit received (though still and impressive amount). I think those sorts of titles would show who actually contributes something worthwhile here and would be something everybody could strive for.

Agreed. Don't see why this would be needed. If it was implemented though people should be able to toggle the notifications on/off.
