The private key can be compared to a password and proves ownership of certain addresses. Without this private key it is not possible to send any coins from the address since you are unable to prove your ownership of the address. The 2nd comment of this thread has got all the answers you needed. Friend mined BTC for you, so were you so lazy to even create a wallet with addresses of whose private keys would be held by you and ask your friend to direct all your BTC mining earnings to your own address? You guys trust others too much but internet is full of scams, so you better be careful even if you're trusting your local people because it's about money and BTC is volatile money.
