This is the right way. You should buy some bitcoin today and hold them for some time and when you realize that know selling is profitable then you can sell your coins. But mining is also mandatory because if there is no mining there would be no supply and if no one wants to sell hid coins where will you find coins? But it is also a fact that mining in these days are not profitable.

Mining matters a lot indeed, because if we will mine it will make bitcoin more wide, mining has a lot of profit but it only needs patience and some money to buy the mining equipment, after it spending even small we can get high profit, using only one way of earning in crypto currency cannot get you better than investing as well as collecting money for mining because according to me mining is good too,
