Ideally, price manipulation should not be part of the bitcoin market because it destroys the sense of value of bitcoin, if bitcoin price can be controlled by whales, then what chance do we have should they  intentional crash the market? Imagine a network of honest peers whose work is consensus to be toppled down by a number of whales only. It does not make sense at all and it is in that part that i understood how idealistic and hopeful you are, and don't worry, i feel the same and is continuing to hope that price manipulation soon be a thing of the past for bitcoin.
