You sign the message using the bitcoin address affiliated with your account, not with the bitcointalk account itself. Or did I misunderstand what you're trying to say here?

I understood the Bitcoin one, and I hope it's the answer (otherwise it wouldn't be a feasible way to recover access to your account I think).
