I usually click the Merit-button with my middle mouse, which opens a new tab, and continue reading. When I'm done, I merit all open tabs, like this:

I've just tested how fast I can click the "Send" button. I can hit it 3 times before getting this:

Just don't double click that button Are you sure you are that fast? I know LoyceV has some skills in meriting multiple people in a short time (if I remember correctly) so he can be more affected by this but I really doubt that it will be a so big issue.
