Robinhood has already begun offering commission-free BTC trading too. I think they also offer ETH and maybe some other coins too. It uses the same model as their stock-trading platform. See here.

Commission-free trading usually just means they're taking profit off the spread. You're usually buying at a slightly higher price or selling at a slightly lower price than you could on some other exchanges. I recommend using Coinbase Pro. It offers commission-free trading when you use limit orders.
