Strictly speaking, bitcoin with segwit is the bastard child because segwit introduces changes to the code that dramatically alter the way it works. Bitcoin cash is more like your purebred, a continuation of the line with minor changes to improve performance. That's not to say that a good cross-breed won't outperform a thoroughbred however. That remains to be seen
