Wow, I was very surprised to hear this because I had never heard of it before but if I thought it made a lot of sense if they sold it for hacking reasons, I still wasn't sure if there was no evidence

This information is more than two weeks old. As really was we do not know. But most likely there was a real hacking, as the cost of selling data is very low ($10 for 100 documents and the more you buy the cheaper it will be).
