On LN article series by Andreas Brekken, specifically at https://medium.com/andreas-tries-blockchain/bitcoin-lightning-network-2-we-must-first-become-the-lightning-network-49c46953c1d7 he made 4289 satoshi ($0.31 at that time) monthly by route 260 transaction.

TLDR : running LN nodes isn't profitable

I don't see how nodes with lots open channel isn't spirit of decentralization since it bound to happen with merchants, payment processor or anyone who makes lots of transaction.

Interesting idea, it could give users more routing path at cost of longer routing.
