Some say "he/him when they think MALE" and
Some say "she/her when they think female" and
Some say nothing when they think they are 3rd gender
This is a highly politically incorrect assumption you're making, that there are only three gender identifications available.
In this 21st Century, such -ist attitudes can only hinder the individual's ability to attain their full life potential, by presenting themselves to the rest of the world as they truly are and in the right category.
To
quote an authorityThe sex that was assigned to them at birth is none of your business. Its not what defines them. What matters is what they are now. And even still, they are so much more than just their gender identity. Everything else about them might be the same as you or anybody else.
Currently, these are the gender identification options available (sincere apologies to any newly emerged self identifier categories
discovered made up identified with
since its compilation)
Remember well:
Its possible that they will identify with one of the options.
But when they dont, it may be a hurtful reminder of how their journey is not reflected in the world.
