You only said potential, of course there is.
People call it the new form of money in the future as we are heading to a digital age or if we are not already at that stage now.
Bitcoin is decentralized, people can transact without the need of 3rd party and this is more transparent than the current system, so the potential is high.

Still there is a barrier for bitcoin to be used as curreny which is high volatility on its prices,if people want it to be used as currency in future everywhere then it need to have stable value and acceptability everywhere which looks not possible in the near future.
