Actually, to be correct, you lose mining when luck is low and gain mining when luck is high.
But ... you can never predict when either will occur.
Hopping makes no difference to that.
(Hopping just increases your variance above the pool variance)
I think of it like the gambler that keeps choosing a different number and color on the roulette wheel and thinking that they're better off than choosing the same number and color each time. All they're doing is introducing more variance! LolBut ... you can never predict when either will occur.
