since you've already mentioned developing an app, do you know that the ilcoin team announce their first ilcoin contest via reddit? Basically the contest is to develop an app that could be of value to ilcoin's development and you win 5k usd in ilc! i'm actually intrigued.

kidding aside, i think that this contest is also going to be an ideal event for developers specially those who are in line with security development.

More importantly, contests like these would practically let everyone know about the possibilities of how to use and monetize ILCoin to the fullest, through unique app development use case scenarios provided by the community.

That's the exact and best way to put it. And since the age of ilcoin is speculated to be out this month, i believe this is also going to be the first of the many apps for the ilcoin blockchain. I'm truly excited on what this game can give the project on the monetization aspect.
