I do not agree with your statement and you have provided answer to the riddles.
We all have topics that we dislike and we shall ignore it as soon as we see it.
People will always read what interests them even if it is a long article provided it is their topic of interest, money making ideas top the list of what people are interested in reading worldwide.

Most likely they choose what makes them easily understand and what makes them relate to something.
Learning is about what makes an individual interested in something.
You can't easily relate and understand if you are not even interested in the first place.

It is one of the reasons actually, people tend to go in an easy way, and forget about doing hard work and skips learning and mainly focus on earning instant money which is really impossible to begin with. That is one of the common problems we have in the community.
