In Croatia it is huge. Mostly because we were a top team during the last 20+ years so we always fought for medals.
Football is still no. 1, but most of us grew up watching our handball players fight for gold.

They usually did it playing beautifully and with a style different from others and some of our players are considered among the greatest in the history of the sport.

Exactly, success and emotions bread love for the sport in new generations. I will always have a soft spot for handball because of great moments from my adolescent years. I will never forget our golden generation with masterful playmaker Ivano Balic.

Same way I got hooked on Tennis after watching Ivanisevic on Wimbledon, both in his lost finals as well as when he finally took the trophy home.
