I'll be honest. I haven't got a goddamn idea why cricket is so popular. I always thought the second most popular sport was basketball till I see that list few years ago... Didn't even know cricket existed before that.

You are right Cricket is like a religion in India and IPL their T20 league which is among the Top 6 leagues in the world. Mzhansi Superleague of South Africa and Big Bash League of Australia all got inspired by the IPL. BCCI the Indian cricket board is the richest cricket board in the world even than the ICC which is the International Cricket Council similar to FIFA in football. The major cricket playing and following nations are South Asian countries apart from it Australia, England and New Zealand.

played kabaddi alot as a child in school and outside.
definitely a very unique sport i have not seen played in europe/americas. it has had huge recent development here with the vivo pro kabaddi league(my dad is an avid watcher of that,and although i have never bet on it,i think i have seen some kabaddi odds on sportsbet Wink

the single guy going into other teams 'territory' has to do it in one breath(by continously saying kabaddi-kabaddi-kabaddi...) and if he stops saying that his turn is lost! this is such a unique aspect that makes it so much more fun. other sports usually have a timer(like basketball with 24 sec shot clock) in which a team has to use their chance, but here its entirely on the player for however long he can do it! Cheesy

I think the single deep breath was followed in the old days but this is not followed in the modern-day Kabbadi and there is a timer for each and every ride and several other minor rule changes for making the game interesting and to be adopted by the other countries.
