To the contrary, a part of the actual relief in actual courtroom defamation cases is to get everything out on the record in a public courtroom, so that a prevailing plaintiff can have it publicly demonstrated why he is right. It can significantly enhance the repair of damage to one’s reputation; in some cases, it can be even more important than monetary damages, which may be nominal, infeasible to prove, or impossible to collect.

Sometimes for rhetorical purposes. Other times for efficiency: If some people are presenting to me arguments that I already sufficiently answered in n different ways, then it is optimal to self-quote (perhaps with boldface, highlighting, large text, etc.), rather than to waste my time writing explanation n+1.
