I highly agree with this,

Realization is what really helps up on how to wake up or recover from being addicted to gambling, especially if you lose too much. Seeing how it affects your life financially and emotionally will make you change and start to avoid gambling little by little.

The realization of being addicted to gambling is necessary but it is not everything, there are many people out there that know they have a problem and yet they keep gambling, after that the most important thing is the will to change and to look for help, unfortunately as we know many of those that are addicted to gambling are predisposed to this due to their personalities so many of them will become addicted once again as they do not know how to live their lives without gambling anymore.

I think we can use the words committed and motivated. At the moment the gambler already realized he is a compulsive gambler, nothing's changed. He can still continue gambling. I think the compulsive gambler should come to a point where he is already committed and motivated to change. He already understand the damage he have done to his family. This is the time they will ask for help, and sure, some will fail, but as long as they are committed and motivated to change. They will always try stop. It will be a long process, temptations will always get them, but the motivation to stop should always come back.
