That's what they said, as per your quote. Nicolae Ciontescu is 100% a Romanian name, I can assure you. If they would be registered in another country (no matter which one), what jurisdiction would have a Romanian policeman (remember a policeman, not the Romanian Police) to contact them?

Therefore, I assume they either are, or pretend to be Romanian, since they mentioned that Romanian name. And this is the shady aspect: why would be a Romanian company registered on another country? Why wouldn't it have an address or a phone number?

It's a scare tactic, they've picked probably the first name Romanian name they've come across or they mutilated Ceausescu a bit and there your have it  Grin. They are UK based, the whole thing of bringing in a foreign police investigation was to delay or prevent the customer to go to his own police station and file a complaint.

Now, let's look at the real situation.
If they are based in the UK, they follow UK laws and there is indeed a criminal investigation going on on the user's account...Extstock is facing criminal charges under  s342 POCA when they fully disclosed the name of the officer who is in charge of the investigation.

Have you ever heard of a bank or paypal or revolut telling the name of the officer investigating?

In my case they said it was Europol who contacted them. Europol wouldn't directly contact a UK based exchange. They have no jurisdiction in the UK. The only thing Europol could do is work with UK authorities such as the NCA or SW RCCU. ExtStock should have been contacted by either the UK police, SW RCCU or NCA. Not Europol. This story makes absolutely no sense and is legally impossible.

Of course, it makes no sense, Europol is not an investigation agency, it's a cooperation and coordination agency. All the investigations are done by the local branches of law enforcement, there is no Europol or Interpol 007 agent  Grin.

They are reading this topic it seems so they will probably understand they are in really big trouble with their lies.
If they don't unlock your account you can start filing complaints both to your local police and to the uk financial ombudsman.
They are facing some serious charges if they keep sticking with those lies..
