You talk like all gamblers are also alcoholics. While this may be true for most of them, I think not all are like this. There are also gamblers that know what they are doing and not losing control on anything. Not on their health, not on their finances.

It is possible to be a responsible gambler. You don't need to lose your health.

It's true that its possible to be a responsible gambler that's why not all gamblers are addicted as majority of the gamblers are responsible, however, if a gambler will be addicted, it's possible also that he can be addicted with alcohol and drugs, not in many cases but the possibility is still there.

If gambling can't replace alcohol addiction, the both definition can not lead to the same level of lifestyle. The phycological health is the main factor to understand why the gamblers can't control their emotions which leads them to gamble more and more.
