No, they still do have to play the remaining eight games. And that would determine their playoff placement or seed. My guess, if one of those team you mentioned manage to get in 9th seed having a 4 or more fewer games to getting in the playoff spot, then the league would proceed to play-in tournament to at least have that team get their last chance on clinching in.
This is quite crucial for 8th seed team although they only have to win 1 game. You know... they need to be competitive as much as possible.
