What about the funding transaction? Has it been confirmed yet? As far as I remember, I got the same status when I accidentally closed Electrum before the transaction got confirmed. Your node might have lost the connection with the node you are opening a channel to. In my case, the status changed to 'OPEN' after the transaction has been confirmed.
