Ripple have been already in use since a long time. It is mainly used by banks for internal transactions between them. And as one of the first crypto in the market, he has been traded for a long time so the ask for it increased which made his price got higher despite his large supply.
Someone above that team would burn their part to reduce the supply, i doubt this would happen.
