I think it was an obvious typo. There can't be overlapping ranges because there would be 2 winning outcomes. I think the 90 odd people that bet on it before it was corrected were trying to exploit the mistake.

Apparently, it wasn't that obvious that it was a typo, and I think that people who placed their bets on the "$12,001 - $21,500" range at least deserve an email notifying that the range was changed.
